Notes:
Heyn emphasizes the fact that iron carbon alloys tend to undercool and to solidify in the metastable condition(iron+iron-carbide). Only alloys of strong hypereutectic composition posses so many (graphite) nuclei that solidification according to stable conditions can be obtained. If in hypereutectic or eutectic compositions graphite is found, it can only be the result of a decomposition reaction of previous formed ironcarbide.
